A Meditation to Balance the Chakras

Chakras are energetic wheel houses that serve as gates to our mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well being. These vortex’s of human superpower potential play a huge role in how we experience life. Are we feeling worthy, safe, and connected or are we feeling useless, insecure, and aloof?

Balancing and activating our chakras transforms our pain into purpose; our fear into love. Each chakra center is associated with an area of the body and a color in the rainbow spectrum.

  1. Base/Root Chakra- Red 
  2. Sacral Chakra- Orange 
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra- Yellow 
  4. Heart Chakra- Green or Pink
  5. Throat Chakra- Blue 
  6. Third Eye Chakra- Indigo 
  7. Crown Chakra- Violet.

A Chakra Meditation for Clearing and Charging

Below is a quick and easy meditation to recharge, re-balance, and activate your chakras. When working through each one try to envision its color.

The following exercise can be done sitting in easy pose on a floor cushion, in a chair with your feet planted firmly on the ground, or lying down. It is important to make sure you do not cross your feet if you are sitting in a chair or lying down as this will disrupt the flow of energy.

Find a quiet space. Begin by centering yourself, bringing your attention to your breath and releasing any tension you might be experiencing in your body. Relax your feet, your legs, your stomach, your shoulders, then your arms, your hands, your chest, and your face, until you feel calm and completely present in the moment. The 1st, Base/Root Chakra opens the chamber to access all the other chakras. When you are ready you will bring your attention to that chakra first.

Bringing your attention to your Base/Root Chakra- turn the RED WHEEL counterclockwise, opening up the energy to that chakra. Envision white light cleaning and clearing- removing any negative feelings that might come up.

As you work through this process, if negative or uncomfortable feelings arise, acknowledge them but try to not engage with them, let them float by your mind’s eye and move on.

Envision white light smoothing over that red wheel, healing it, and when you are ready, turn the RED WHEEL clockwise to close it back up.

Repeat the above process at each of the chakras. As you move up the chakra chain, envision each chakra connecting with the one before it and remember to envision the corresponding color to each energy wheel as you move up that chakra chain.

When you reach the Crown Chakra, envision this beautiful tube of light running up and down your spine, blending all the colors of all the chakras. Feel the warmth and the energy of that light and see it extending 8 feet above you, below you, and to your sides.  

Take a deep breath (inhaling through your nose, filling your belly, and holding that breath until you feel all the cells in your body vibrating) and release it (bringing your belly back towards your spine). Sit in that space for a moment, feel what you feel, and when you are ready, send white light from your Crown Chakra up to the heavens and white light from the Base/Root Chakra down into the depths of the earth. Feel that expansion and connection to all that is seen and unseen. 

Drink plenty of water throughout the day after this meditation and journal if you feel called to. Sometimes writing down even the most random of thoughts helps to process emotions that might come up during a meditation.
